A lot of people are creeped out by the thought of anything “egg” flavored on their shaved ice. However, egg custard does not taste like egg. It is a custard flavor, like a sweet creamy vanilla. Hawaiian Shaved Ice offers egg custard shaved ice and snow cone syrup to make it easy to enjoy an egg custard flavored treat. Simply pour and enjoy. No need to mix ingredients!

Egg Custard Shaved Ice

Interestingly, we find that the majority of our customers who order egg custard syrups are located in Maryland. But in all honestly, that doesn’t surprise us given the history of the snow cone. Baltimore is believed by many to be the city that invented the snow cone.

In Baltimore, the cool, refreshing treats are known as “snowballs.” These snowballs are shaved ice topped with flavored syrup and usually marshmallow cream as well. In the 1800s, mothers used to make homemade egg custard using eggs, sugar, and vanilla to flavor shaved ice. Today, we can use flavored syrup that tastes just like the real thing.

If you run (or are opening) a shaved ice stand or even if you’re just making snow cones at home in Maryland, you’ll want to be sure to stock up on egg custard syrup. It’s definitely a traditional flavor in your area. And if you’re located in another part of the country, consider adding it to your flavor lineup. Given the history of the snow cone and it’s long-time popularity, it might be a delicious flavor that your customers might want to try.
